Two observations drove me to write this book:
1. A powerful stigma exists around conflict.
2. People don’t collaborate, even when they say they do.
These observations held true whether I was working as a litigation lawyer, arbitrator, mediator, policy analyst, project manager or conflict management consultant. They held true across private, public and not-for-profit sectors.
Because people fear conflict and the stigma attached to the word, they don’t readily avail themselves of the wide range of excellent services being offered. Hiring a mediator or walking into the Conflict Resolution office is the last place people want to be.
Although I can’t change the stigma around conflict, I can help people to collaborate using the 6-step approach explained in this book.
To make it even easier for people to collaborate, I am working on a companion book
The Collaborator’s Toolbox. Stay tuned.
I answer why the decades-old mediation and conflict
resolution models haven’t worked. My solution is based
on collaboration and it’s easy to implement in all aspects of
our private, work and civic lives. It creates harmony in
the home, reduces inefficiency and wasted time in the
workplace, and advances common social goals
in the community.
